Return to Images of Mary

Sunday, June 14, 2009

In these images we see the Virgin Mary as she is in eternity. Through the power of the resurrection of her Son, the Light of heaven, fills her entire being. Temple of the Holy Spirit, her work among us continues until the end of time.
Her person and all she embodies is pure gift, and as she receives, so she freely gives. In the person of Christ, the Divine Nature and the Human Natured are united. In the Virgin, her human nature did not become divine, but it was filled with divine Grace, ever-filled and ever-flowing with the self-emptying love of the Triune God. Created in the image of God, she is the first among us in whom our true nature has been restored and made manifest through the power of the Resurrection. The Church presents her to us as the new Eve, the Mother of all Living. The Church tells us that the last words spoken to us from the Cross - "Behold, thy mother" - are words spoken not once in time to St. John, but words spoken for all time to each soul who would listen. Mary is our mother, our guide leading us eternally into a more perfect union with her divine Son, and, in and through Him, to the Father's heart and to the infinite Spirit of Love that is our eternal home.
